Latest anti-counterfeiting action Minimize

On 1 October 2011 the much discussed and debated  Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) was signed in Tokyo by eight countries including the United States, Canada, Singapore and South Korea. ACTA is described as "a groundbreaking initiative by key trading partners to strengthen the international legal framework for effectively combating global proliferation of commercial-scale counterfeiting and piracy."

 

Elsewhere, Operation Pangea IV has resulted in a week of coordinated action involving 81 countries targeting the online sale of counterfeit and illegal medicines. actions resulted in dozens of arrests and the seizure of 2.4 million potentially harmful medicines worldwide worth $6.3 million, the US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement spokesperson said, and was described as, "the largest of its kind ever mounted against Internet bad med sellers.”

 

In November, Shanghai Police bulldozed tons of fake goods including pirated goods, DVDs, software, fake Louis Vuitton and Gucci handbags and Rolex watches. Click here to read that story.
